At Speednet Telecommunications Limited/Smart Com Belize Limited we recognize that keeping in communication during this time of national and global emergency is of paramount importance.

Our entire staff has been sensitized and charged with the responsibility to ensure our communication services, including internet, are performing at optimal levels. Our emergency, mitigation and contingency plans include the use of internal and external resources aimed at maintaining uninterrupted services to you should an outbreak occur in Belize.

Our support access numbers and personnel remain unchanged, and we will advise you in advance of any changes should this become necessary. Speednet/Smart is in regular contact with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other organizations involved in this fight against COVID – 19 and will adjust its contingency measures in keeping with any further decisions and actions taken by GOB.

At Speednet/Smart, we are also cooperating and collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Government of Belize (GOB) in facilitating the dissemination of their public and interagency communications in the implementation of their strategies. As an essential service provider, we are always ready to responsibly deliver necessary information to our customers and the general public.

Additionally, as a responsible people-centered corporate citizen these plans are also designed to always have the health and safety of our staff, their families and customers as a priority. We want to assure that all is being done to ensure that our services continue with normalcy.

In keeping with the Social Distancing Protocol as a prevention to the spread of the Covid-19 Virus: effective immediately, Smart will limit the amount of customers entering the showroom to a maximum of four (4) persons at a time. Our Security personnel is assigned to manage this exercise.

In an effort to avoid queues, crowds and outings, Smart customers are strongly recommended to use online banking or the Smart app to pay bills or buy credit.

Smart Sharing Educational App with Schools!

From March 10th - 12th, Smart visited five primary schools across Belize to share a free educational app that was designed to assist students that are preparing to sit exams. On Tuesday, we visited the Chan Chen and San Antonio Government Schools in Corozal; on Wednesday, we visited the San Juan Bosco RC School located in Cowpen; and on Thursday, we visited the Bella Vista RC School and San Isidro Government School in Toledo. The main goal of the app is to help students prepare for the BJAT and PSE exams in a way that is both fun and engaging, while still allowing them to learn the material effectively.

Technician II – Network Services

SUMMARY:

Work under the direction of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Supervisors to ensure proper installation, maintenance and upkeep, as well as timely repairs of all Speednet telecommunications equipment, associated infrastructure, and ancilliary equipment. Participate in planning of new installations and projects and execute installations as directed by the Supervisors – O&M.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise, coordinate and carry out the following activities:

  • Operations and maintenance of the cellular base station equipment
  • Operations and maintenance of microwave and fibre transmission equipment
  • Operations and maintenance of AC / DC power equipment, and standby generators
  • Operations of air conditioning equipment
  • Support senior staff in planning of new cell sites and equipment rollouts. Once approved, carry out installation, testing and commissioning as directed
  • Support senior staff in maintaining up to date documentation on spares inventory and field installed equipment
  • Network Alarms monitoring, analysis and correction
  • Monitor network and element performance to ensure KPIs are met and maintained
  • Be proactive in identifying possible service affecting situations and making recommendation to address same
  • Abide by department and company standards and procedures.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Valid driver’s permit for standard transmission vehicles
  • Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of computer literacy with spreadsheets, word processing, and database software
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, routers and switches
  • Team player with ability to multi-task and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree in Physics, Math, Telecommunications or Electronics. Previous working experience in the telecommunications field can be considered an asset. Successful candidates will be exposed to a combination of both in-house and external training programmes.

Cynthia Yates Wins Our Valentine’s Raffle!

For Valentine's Day, Smart partnered with Sunbreeze Hotel and Maya Island Air to offer transport and a one night stay for two on beautiful San Pedro! The raffle ran for one week, beginning on Tuesday, February 11th, with the winner being selected at random on Monday, February 17th, 2020.

To enter, all a customer had to do was like our Facebook page and share the post with information about our raffle. Profiles had to be set to public so we could verify that our post was shared. Cynthia Yates, was the lucky winner of our draw and Marketing Officer, Adelaide Sabido, was eager to deliver the prize to the happy customer!

SUMMARY:
The IP Engineer will ensure the high availability of the services provided by the IP Core and WiFi Core Network, through an effective: Operation, Maintenance and Performance supervision of the IP Core and WiFi equipment

The role includes:

  • Troubleshooting IP network and WiFi Broadband Issues
  • Analysis and optimization of the Network performance indicators
  • Installation and Integration of New Equipment’s in the IP Network

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and Monitor all critical IP Packet Core and WiFi Elements
  • Provide and analyze network performance KPI’s as needed for all IP/WiFi elements and based on this analysis recommend strategic and tactical Plans to avoid negative effects in the Network Services provided
  • Perform Planning, Engineering, implementation, maintenance, of routing, and switching equipment
  • Proactively anticipate network growth and plan accordingly for all IP/WiFi related nodes
  • Implement, test, and accept new ISP partners
  • Implement, Build and test configuration for Dedicated Internet, Lease Circuit, WiFi etc.
  • Liaise with ISP for Service Quality, fault handling and O&M procedures
  • Provide Customer Service support and troubleshooting as required
  • Ability to install computer and install OS for specific services as may be required
  • Ability to install Remote equipment to provide service as may be required
  • Prioritize tasks and allocate time to successfully complete new and current projects with minimal supervision
  • Engineering support to other teams

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications or Physics and 2 to 4 years’ experience in the Technical Area of the Telecommunications Industry.
  • Certifications as CCNA / CNNP in Cisco, Firewalls, CompTIA Networks and Security+ and LINUX are a Plus.

SUMMARY:
The primary role of the Customer Service Representative/Cashier is to give support to showroom staff in the deliverance of excellent customer service to all customers.
The secondary role of the Cashier/Customer Service Representative is the collection of cash from the sale of products, services and credit and the management of collected cash in adherence to Smart’s Cash Management policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be knowledgeable in all of Smart Services, products and promotions
  • Receive payment for the sale of phones and other accessories and issue receipts for these transactions
  • Be able to answer basic questions about Smart products and services and promotions, resolve any concerns related to the customer's bill, update the customer's information, or sign the customer up for new services
  • Conduct other transactions such as retail Gimme Dalla sales, the sale of pre-paid cards
  • Ensure that deposits are prepared daily and in a timely manner in adherence to Cash management policy
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily and monthly reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain copies of reports either electronically or hard copy in a manner to have them readily available for auditors but in a manner to maintain customer’s confidentiality
  • Minimize errors that affect customer’s billing
  • Use initiative and resourcefulness in an effort to retain customers
  • Maintain working area clean and orderly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree in Business and/or Accounting
  • At least one (1) year sales experience
  • Experience in cash management
  • Applicant MUST reside in San Pedro or surrounding areas
